If you find that your skin has become incurably dry this winter we've conjured up this incredibly replenishing skin cream. It's properties restore moisture and repair damaged skin cells. The star ingredient of this recipe is none other then rosehip seed oil. Rosehip seed oil (even when used on its own) makes a huge difference especially if you suffer from cracked, flakey skin. You'll notice a drastic improvement if you incorporate this oil into your daily skin care routine. It's also great for treating wrinkles, acne, stretch marks, scars and reviving dull skin tones!

Supplies needed:

1 Glass jar that can hold at least 250 ml (or a few small jars to distribute your creation amongst friends)

A double boiler (a small pot filled with water and a heat safe glass measuring cup placed inside are a quick alternative)

A small whisk

Measuring spoons

2 tbsp Rosehip Seed Oil

2 tbsp Shea Butter

1 tbsp Cocoa Butter

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Beeswax (if you are using a vegan wax substitute like candelilla, use half a tablespoon)

Essential oils to consider adding that also help restore balance to your skin:

Myrrh

Lavender

Neroli

Geranium

The selected ingredients are known for combating dry skin and locking in moisture but please make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients listed. Moisturizers/lotions/oils work best when used after a hot shower. The healing properties of your skin lotion will soak in quickly while your pores are open but this isn't required if you don't shower frequently, only suggested!

Have your glass jar set aside so you are prepared to transfer the lotion after heating.

In a double boiler, on a low simmer, add all of your ingredients one by one until they melt together completely. Stir the mixture slowly and remove from heat. Allow the lotion to cool slightly. It will look a little cloudy at this point, and you may want to add essential oils (just 10 drops or a combination of each).

Whip the mixture with a small whisk and then spoon it into your container. If you like your lotions a little stiff you can add more wax before the mixture has cooled until you've reach a desired consistency. You can also top off your lotion with some crushed rose petals or a single sprig of lavender. This looks especially nice if you are gifting the lotion to someone.

It's important to take care of your skin throughout the changing seasons even if you are low maintenance when it comes to a skin care regimen. As I mentioned, just using a single oil like rose hip seed will keep you looking hydrated and youthful. Another method that can try to combat dry skin with is an herbal facial steam which you can learn to make in my most recent DIY beauty post found HERE.
