A Zodiac Gift Guide for Your "Best Bishes"

Aquarius

January 20 - February 18

The Aquarius functions on a high energy frequency. This is ideal in friendship because it allows them to be spontaneous, funny, intellectual, loyal, and sociable. In my experience, Aquarius' provide some of the best insight when you're between a rock and a hard place (though it's common for this zodiac sign to loose sight of their own logic when under stress). Adventurous and eclectic, the Aquarius individual would love gifts that involve travel: a drive to the coast for the day or a hike through the mountains to visit the hot springs. Crunched for time? Then a box set of The X-Files, or a new tarot deck would suit this person just fine.

Pisces

February 19 - March 20

The key word to describe a Pisces is "DREAMY." My fiancé happens to be a Pisces and he always stumped me on the common characteristics of this zodiac sign. But dreams comes in many shapes and sizes. For a Pisces I believe that the best gift to give them is something that plants them in another world. A fantasy novel or a video game are great choices for this star sign. We recommend On the Road by Jack Kerouac or Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. Kerouac's novel shows a side of beat culture in it's prime, while Electric Kool Aid provides a look at the "new beat" individual during the dawn of psychedelic drugs and rock and roll. If your Pisces friend is a gamer, I recommend preordering The Order for PS4. The Order is a single player RPG set in old time London where players fight off monsters that are half-man half-beast. RPG is short for "role playing game." If old London doesn't seem like your cup of tea (pun very much intended) then search for games that fall into the RPG genre for a Pisces.

Aries

March 21 - April 19

Aries is a very compelling zodiac sign because it manages to balance both male and female traits equally. They are assertive, trusting, outgoing, and are well suited for leadership positions. An Aries needs to occupy their time with activities that are fulfilling to them. These activities incorporate hard work, patience, and attention to detail. How-to books or seasonal classes at a community college are the perfect gift for an Aries because they love collecting new skills. and they are always up for a challenge. A cooking class is ideal but figure drawing or jewelry making would also be suitable options.

Taurus

April 20 - May 20

Oh, how I love a good Taurus. Taurus' are head strong individuals with a fantastic ability to bounce back from difficult situations and relationships. Taurus zodiacs (not Leo's) are the most regal in my opinion, because they are masters of the social world. They know how to charm an audience and still stay separate from it, and they have a fantastic ability to censor themselves. This isn't to say that Taurus' are secretive... I'm pretty sure Shrek was a Taurus because he explained it so aptly: Taurus' are like onions, they have many layers. They are also creatures of comfort. A Taurus knows when to make a public appearance but they are very much homebodies. We recommend taking them to a wine tasting, or if your budget allows it, get them a Kitchen Aid. A good friend of mine (and a Taurus) once told me that it was one of the best gifts she's ever received.

Gemini

May 21 - June 20

Gemini's receive a lot of gruff from other star signs as being narcissists, but the reality is that Gemini's are talkers, day dreamers. They personify the term "wander lust" in every way. Every time a Gemini talks about themselves, they are initiating conversation; attempting to relate and share with the people around them. They are certainly a unique star sign- you'll remember every Gemini you meet because they have very crazy, multifaceted personalities. Gemini's love telling and good story and experiencing new things so we recommend getting them tickets to a live concert or a gift voucher to a local tattoo shop (for spontaneous body ink of course). If these gifts seem too fleeting, Fujifilm instant cameras are a great option for Gemini's so they can document their memories.

Cancer

June 21 - July 22

Cancer's are probably the biggest advocates of Valentine's Day. They love romance and seek security in their relationships with others. With friends and family they can be extremely enduring, but if they perceive a person as a threat, Cancer's can be protective, even cut throat. Take advantage of this opportunity to shower your Cancer friend's with love and attention.

Chocolates (we suggest Winnow Chocolates), flowers, or lingerie from up and coming retailers like Gooseberry, Aimee Cherie Intimates, or For Love and Lemons are great options for Cancer's. A bottle of Broken Heart Gin is also an acceptable, romance themed gift for the Cancer in your life.

Leo

July 23 - August 22

Leo's are by far the easiest to pick out in a crowd. They are charismatic, devoted, and they wear their accomplishments on their sleeve. Leo's have outstanding leadership qualities, many of them excelling in the work of science, corporate business, and medical fields. Leo's also shine in social settings (they have few enemies), but suffer from a consistent feeling of misplacement amongst others. Personalized gifts are perfect for this zodiac- so anything that incorporates their birth stone (peridot) is an excellent choice. If this is a little too sentimental for you, skin care products from Glossier like their new Mega Greens Galaxy Pack Cleanser or their Moisturizing Moon Mask make a fantastic substitute for the hardworking Leo.

Virgo

August 23 - September 22

Virgo's are old souls; the wisest of the bunch. They appreciate a good power game or debate, and make great conversationalists. Virgo's are the anti-holiday. I've known many Virgo's to deny upcoming birthdays, and they refuse to take center stage. If you are obliged to buy them a gift make it something practical. A journal or a subscription to a hobby magazine like McSweeney's Believer are silently appreciated by this Zodiac sign.

Libra

September 23 - October 22

Libra's are a lot like Taurus' because they too have the ability to appear put together and organized to the on looker. Libra's are zodiac's built on character. Every experience they have shapes them, and so they are constantly processing emotions and information on an internal and private level. They may have trouble articulating their emotions, while in social and business settings they have an ability to express themselves that can not be matched. They are the star sign I would recommend bringing house warming gifts to- preferably a nice bottle of alcohol, as their tastes veer towards classic and minimalist. They would also be the perfect candidates for new age stationary by Terrapin Stationers or Catbird NYC.

Scorpio

October 23 - November 21

Scorpio's are probably the most bizarre sign in the zodiac chart. They are intense personalities with a vibrating, spontaneous energy. They are drawn to strange, unusual things (often times, they show a heightened interest in occult subjects) which makes a crystal grid an excellent gift for this star sign. Old, unusual jewelry (Bell and Bird, perhaps?), or a weekend trip to an EDM festival are also wonderful choices for the spirited Scorpio.

Sagittarius

November 22 - December 21

I asked a Sag friend what their ideal Valentine gift would be. They promptly answered, "A cold, hard drink." This free spirited, abrasive star sign is known by many as the "tomboy" of the zodiac. A drink is certainly an appropriate gift for this star sign, but we are certain they would love and admire anyone who gifted them an outdoor adventure. Rock climbing, bungie jumping, or zip lining are all great choices because it'll give your Sag friend a huge adrenaline rush that'll be hard to forget.

Capricorn

December 22 - January 19

Capricorns are prudent, reliable, industrious, and practical. It's not hard to figure out what this star sign desires. They love a good status symbol- jewelry, cars, homes. But most of us find that a loan on a house is a little out of our price range, no? Instead, get your Capricorn friend something for house and home. A geode wine stopper or whiskey stones are a classy gift for a Capricorn. Even better, buy them a Moroccan wedding blanket. These beautiful, bedazzled throws add so much character to a home and they are rich with history.
