The Good Spell Book started on the foundation of magic in all its facets.

When asked about my website, I describe it as a site about "occult practices as they are modernly interpreted." Still, this sounds a little childish, doesn't it? Magic, occultism, and witchcraft as words on their own have been dismissed throughout our history as childish nonsense and campfire stories. So what makes a modern witch? In my eyes it's a person that lives and breathes magic- someone that may have given up on the stories from their childhood but is still drawn to the mystery of witchcraft and the ability to manipulate the world around them.

In my mid-twenties there is more to witchcraft that I'm drawn to then the ploy of promised magic. Witchcraft emanates female sexuality. For a long time, witches and females were unanimous. Dark, mystic, young girls in league with Satan, being the preferred plot line. When it comes down to it, witchcraft as a religion has often paid respect to a female Goddess, Diana (who is supreme over the male God). In my mind, the power and sexuality represented by witches in the past is reflective of modern day witches.

Hopeless Lingerie is an Australian based intimates line, one that has boiled down the seamless, lacy, and ALL BLACK underthings only fit for a girl with magical powers. Gabrielle Adamidis is the designer and owner of Hopeless Lingerie who has been operating her shop since 2008. Underwear is referred to as knickers and garters as suspenders.

Strappy, caged briefs, lace camis, and harnesses- yes harness are just a sampling of what you can find in the Hopeless Lingerie shop. I can't tell you the countless fans Hopeless has gained in the past six years, but their intimates have been featured in a number of look books and photoshoots, straight to the pages of Vogue. This should serve to fuel your desires for your own personal set.

Their April 2013 collection, As Above As Below, featured an iconic pentagram harness and matching pentagram garter skirt. For 2014, Hopeless began the launch of their five part collection, Tenebrae, which makes the shift from occult iconography to bits of lace and vintage inspired shapes. Asamidis describes her brand drawing from old films, modern art, and b-grade horror, among other wonderful references. We can clearly see these inspirations in her latest collection, with tummy grazing panties and Spanish style crop tops. With 2015 nearing, we can only hold our breath for what Asamidis plans next (our crystal ball predicts old Hollywood style?). It seems that Hopeless has broadened their definition of lingerie with each passing collection, veering towards every day clothes with the introduction of cropped shirts and skirts in the bedroom.

We felt conflicted about choosing favorites when it comes to Hopeless designs (there is just too many good pieces) so we broke it down for you. Hopeless is definitely on our Christmas lists this year (ahem- boyfriend are you reading this??) or at least going to be the inspiration behind a very powerful money spell if you catch my drift. Become your own dark Goddess by procuring some of their pieces before the Christmas elves take them all, or buy a set for the bewitching lady in your life.

For the green witch, the Charlotte top and mesh knickers. This set is very "Lolita, chilling out in the garden." It is business in the front and a party in back, with an open derriere, low back pantie. Your herbal witch would love to lounge around in these pieces after a hard day of work in the garden.

For the love witch, the Lenora cami. It pairs great with the Bettie or the Carrie knickers- both strappy, mesh options to combine with this layered top. The cami is the stuff straight out of a Bela Lugosi film, and Lenora is his leading lady. This top will steal the show with its straps that waterfall off the shoulder and an open back. A love witch wouldn't ask for anything else!

For the white witch, the Phoebe knickers and Irena wrap top in limited edition black lace. This set also comes in black, bamboo jersey which is equally charming. A low plunging wrap top and high waist, cut out undies will make your girl's curves out of this world. The classic shape of this set is a simple and flattering addition to any white witch's wardrobe. She is the total package: sexy, pulled together, timeless- just like Hopeless Lingerie.

For the desert witch, the Raven top with Darla knickers. An off the shoulder cropped top with spiderweb lace and matching spiderweb undies are a grungy, rock and roll inspired look that is perfect for your desert dwelling, ocean seeking mistress. Catch her wearing these by the fire place this holiday season rotating vinyls on the turn table.

For the black witch, the Olivia harness worn with the Dionne knickers and Lucy bralette. The dark witch is complex, and for complexity you need layers. Lots of layers. The Dionne knickers are seriously cool, with straps that crawl up the waist to imply more coverage then these panties supply. The Olivia harness compliments perfectly, as another bondage inspired piece. It would look great layered under light weight tank tops or low back shirts and dresses. The Lucy bralette is a low plunging, mesh, halter bra that completes the look and is sure to enhance your ladies natural curves.

What is your favorite look? Feel free to discuss in our new comment boxes below!
