Created with ingredients known to refresh and soothe your skin- this fragrant, cleansing grains recipe is kind to all skin types and eco-friendly. The gentle exfoliating properties will leave your skin soft after each use. Pamper yourself with natural remedies instead of using toxic cleansers. It's satisfying knowing what is going down the drain came from the earth and is returning to it.

Supplies Needed:

* Glass jar with a secure lid

* 1/2 c Kaolin clay (Green clay works as a substitute)

* 1/2 c Organic ground oats or oat flour

* 1 tbsp Powdered organic lavender buds

* 1 tbsp Powdered organic rose petals (Chamomile flowers work as substitute)

* A few drops of your favorite floral essential oil or combination of lavender, chamomile, ylang ylang, and geranium essential oil

Please make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients mentioned!

First, I add the clay to a clean, glass container, large enough to hold the entire recipe. Canning jars work well. I powdered my oats with a food processor but it may be easier to buy this readily made if you don't have to appropriate equipment on hand. Mountain Rose Herbs usually has all your herbal needs in case you don't have local access to these ingredients. Add the oats to your container with the clay, along with the powdered lavender and rose (I powdered these myself with a sterile coffee grinder). Mix the flower powders with the rest of your ingredients, cap the jar, and shake to blend. Take the lid off and add the essential oils, drop by drop. Close the lid and mix again. If you store this in a cool, dark place overnight the oils will permeate the mixture, allowing it to become more fragrant. This last step is optional; you can certainly use your cleanser immediately.

Mix a teaspoon or two of the grains with a little bit of water or aloe juice until you reach a consistency you like. Other notable liquids to try are coconut milk, almond milk, honey, and diluted lemon juice. Massage the paste gently into your face and neck and wash away with cold water. As a bonus, this cleanser also doubles as a face mask! Just leave it on until it dries and wash away. So simple! I love this recipe because it's made up of a handful of ingredients that are completely safe and it's very easy to adapt. Sometimes I'll make various blends depending on what my skin needs. It may seem like a lot of work to someone else but I believe it's very enjoyable to explore natural beauty. After all, these methods have existed far longer than commercial products, and they don't poison your body. Enjoy this recipe as a daily addition to your skin care routine or as a treat for stressed skin!
