There is nothing quite as magical as the month of October- right down to the rainbow, iridescent stone that symbolizes this month: the opal. Like most crystals, opals come in a range of colors (yellow, blue, black, green, red, and orange- these last being referred to as fire opals), but this stone also contains watery incrustations which give it, its luminous sheen.
Historically, opals have been used as a talisman to identify friends and enemies- some believing that the stone was able to shift color in order to identify those you came in contact with. Modern, therapeutic uses of opals can be seen as a treatment for depression, and to provide clarity to the user. As always, we recommend the routine cleansing and charging of crystals in order to be as effective as possible. Cast in a ring, or sitting on your fire place mantle, opals make a beautiful, calming centerpiece. The fall equinox is said to be a time where we can reflect on changes in our life, seek balance, and ponder the mortality of ourselves and the world around us. Opal's are a perfect stone for this season; keeping us tranquil and centered.
