In lue of the upcoming SECOND SEASON on Lifetime TV, we are kicking off our first media post with the songs from Witches of East End. In addition to music blogs, friends, youtube, and getting lost in the maze that is AllMusic- I've found that a great source of new music can be found in your favorite TV shows. Supernatural shows in particular have a knack for showcasing edgy, new bands; responsible in part for the underground music scenes growing popularity. For the first episode of Witches of East End, we have a fantastic selection of bands ranging from Zola Jesus and Digital Daggers (veterans of The Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle), to former Buzzcock Danny Farrant, to MySpace sensation Magic Wands.
It's difficult to choose, but my favorite song from this episode probably falls to Zola Jesus' In Your Nature, remixed by Twin Peak's director, David Lynch. If you are unfamilair with David Lynch, he is an American film maker who surrealist movies have influenced numerous directors and songwriters, garnering him a cult following known as none other then Lynchians. Also a painter and a musician, David Lynch approached Nika Roza Danilova (aka Zola Jesus) about creating a remix of her work. No fan of remixes, Zola Jesus has steered clear of them in her past- but having testified to her own influence over David Lynch's work, the artist allowed him to remix her single, In Your Nature. Nika's voice on the track has been praised as having siren-like qualities, attributed to her background in operatic music. This is a theme that carries throughout her work, and creates a sort of dark and mystic tone to her tracks. In some instances, even being compared to artists like Stevie Nicks and Siouxsie Sioux. In Your Nature is part of her third studio album, Conatus.
